The fire began shortly after midnight at 44 Clifflawn Road, Stratford, in the attic of the home, said Norwalk Fire Department Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal Brian Lampart.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the roof and an active fire in the attic space, Lampart said.
The fire was extinguished within a few minutes and contained to the midsection of the attic, near the attic exhaust fan.
A total of 23 firefighters under the command of Assistant Chief Michael Camperlengo were able to control the fire and limit the damage to the attic space.
No injuries had been reported and the family will be relocated until repairs can be made to the damaged area, Lampart said.
During the time of the incident, Bridgeport and Milford Fire Department assisted with station coverage.
The Stratford Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
